FACING DIVORCE
Finding steadiness, a voice and trust in herself during the end of a marriage
“When I reached out for support from a life doula, I was at the beginning stages of knowing that I needed to get a divorce. I wasn’t sure how I was going to navigate the emotional aspect of it, yet I knew I couldn’t do it alone.
I was in a dark hole looking for a way out. I was completely overwhelmed, scared, sad, hurt and panicked. I did not feel I could share all of the personal information with my circle in my community. It was a very tricky time for me and I really needed someone to remind me to be calm in my storm.
Asking for support was the greatest gift I could have given myself. I was able to find my thoughts, find my voice, find my strength, knowing that someone was there for me and listening to me. It was a very empowering experience for me to have a life doula. It helped me believe in myself when at times I was too lost to know that I needed to believe in myself. To be seen and heard by someone is the most healing thing I have experienced. It allowed me to not only see my situation from different angles, but it helped to find trust in myself again. With that I was able to trust my process and navigate the most difficult time of my life.
Now that I am on the other side of my divorce I can look back and see that having a life doula was a gigantic gift. It allowed me to be able to grow and learn from this experience and now have peace and happiness within.
I can see that this type of support is something that can change our world for the better. With rates of loneliness being extremely high, it proves to me that we are in a great void of having support during crucial life moments. I wish I would’ve had this support when my Father died. It would have helped me in my process of all of the pain I was going through.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone that I knew needed support. We desperately need these lines of connection and communication as we move through chapters of life and there really are not many opportunities for this in our modern world.”
